Glassfrogs hide their blood to be transparent when they sleep


Most of us wish we could sneak off to enjoy some uninterrupted sleep. Glassfrogs might’ve evolved to have the best way of doing this. In a study published this week in the journal Science, a group of researchers led by Duke University-based biologist Carlos Taboada discovered that the South American glassfrogs turn transparent when they sleep, due to an ability to store their visible red blood cells in their liver as a hiding place. If only parents and those with roommates could borrow the evolutionary capability…
