Early birds really do get the worm

Have you ever wondered if there’s any truth to the saying the early bird gets the worm? Well a new study published in ScienceDirect shows that early birds have a better circadian rhythm as well as stronger verbal skills as they age. Researchers set out to look at the relationship between cognitive abilities and chronotype using a combination of cognitive aptitude and ability testing. They found that while it looked like people who were evening types had stronger verbal abilities, when you adjusted for differences in age and bedtime, morning chronotypes had stronger verbal ability.

Young adults with sleep issues face higher overdose risk

Benzodiazepines are often prescribed as treatment for sleep disorder, but new research shows that it could lead to increased overdoses. Using benzodiazepines (a class of depressant drugs) for sleep disorders was tied to a higher risk for overdose in the 6 months after starting treatment versus other treatments, researchers reported in a new study. In a study of 23,000 young adults, those who newly started benzodiazepine treatment had a 44% higher risk of drug overdose at 6 months versus other treatments for sleep disorders. This risk was further heightened for those who had a recent prescription fill for opioids. Researchers hope physicians take these findings into consideration when prescribing sleep disorder treatments.

We completely agree, sometimes you have to let yourself have a lay in bed and order take out kind of night.
