Sleeping in Your Car
Regardless of the reason you are sleeping in your car, the right combination of a few tips and pointers can turn your overnight stay in your vehicle into a less-than-uncomfortable experience. Once you learn how to sleep in your car comfortably, you can make the most of catching some off-road Z’s.
Tips and Pointers – How to Sleep in Your Car
- Failure to plan is a plan for failure. If you find yourself sleeping in your car all too frequently, keep supplies in the trunk including pillows, blankets, sleeping bags and comfortable clothes.
- Identify the best possible sleeping position. If you are a tall person, your best option may be the front passenger seat as it offers more room than the driver side. Recline the seat and sleep in a semi-sitting position. If you can, also try curling up into the fetal position and sleep in the back seat, otherwise you can fold the back seat down and sleep with your body in the trunk.
- Location, location, location. For safety, find a legal, well-lit spot to park for your overnight stay.
- Make sure the car is not running, crack at least one window open and lock the doors.
- Prioritize your options. Station wagons and minivans are two of the most comfortable options when it comes to sleeping in your car. If you have access to either of these, be sure to take advantage of it.
