Thud ... rattle ... scamper ... smash! These noises are a familiar sound to any pet owner. Sometimes, you just want the little toerags to just shut up and go to sleep along with everyone else in the house. So are sleeping pills for pets the answer? First off, we're not advocating this as a long-term measure. If your pet is driving you crazy on a regular basis, it might be better to remove it from your room or anywhere in your house where you can hear the noise it makes. As a temporary solution, such as when you move to a new house or make changes in your present dwelling, and you need some help to let your pet settle down and get used to things, a sleeping pill can be a good idea. Again, if you're in an unusual situation with a rather noisy pet such as a large dog, and you need to get a good night's sleep come what may, you may have to consider giving your pet a nice, big sedative-filled sausage. Yummy ... zzzzzz. Before you give your pet any medication, though, check with your vet to make sure your pet is able to safely consume it. Giving a dog opiates for humans, for example, often leads to projectile vomiting, so unless you really want to redecorate your surroundings in puke yellow, contact your vet to get the right sleeping pills for your dear four-legged friend. You might be wondering how to get pets to sleep without using sleeping pills. Pets are often creatures of routine, and if that routine is disturbed, a certain amount of restlessness occurs. Sometimes this is unavoidable, such as with guests, a new home, or traveling, so your pets may need medication to fall asleep. However, once you've established a set routine, stick to it. If your dog expects to be fed at seven in the morning, feed him! If your cat is normally released to hunt birds and other wildlife in the evening, release her! Sure, she may bring presents back, and nothing can compare to stepping on a squidgy feathery lump in the kitchen, but she'll sleep better once she's exhausted herself by pretending she's a wild feral hunter. Dogs need regular exercise and entertainment, so make sure your dog has regular walks. Walking your dog will keep you fit as well. So, routine is a great idea for pets when you can stick to it. When circumstances interrupt your pet care routine, sleeping pills for pets may be a way to ensure you get a good night's sleep. After all, if you're grumpy in the morning because you're being woken up in the night by your pet, you may no longer enjoy the benefits of pet ownership. Sleeping pills for pets are generally safe and effective as long as you follow the instructions and use the right ones for the size, breed, and species of your pet.
