Dreams are weird things. Some people talk about dreaming in color, yet some people insist they dream in black and white. Some dreams are about mundane activities, whereas others are about being chased across a strange landscape by a giant pumpkin and twelve weasels in pink waistcoats. Don't know what a weasel is? Substitute raccoons instead, and you'll understand why that's a particularly weird dream.

Still, is dreaming in color more significant than dreaming in black and white? Well, humans have many senses, a lot more than the traditionally quoted five, and seeing in color is usually one of them. What are colors though? Simply put, they are the brains way of interpreting certain electrical signals. Some people "see" sounds in colors, and others "feel" colors. We associate blue with cold and red with hot. However, our dreams as we remember them, and this can be very subjective, are often given meanings depending on the color of the dream. So, what does the color of your dream mean?

So, in the mentioned dream, one that a certain writer occasionally has, the pink waistcoats worn by the weasels represent love or kindness. The yellow of the banana represents betrayal or cowardice, and the monochrome landscape represents sadness. Of course, you could alternatively attribute it to the strange humor of the writer's parents.

Black and white is meant to indicate depression, although some might say it could stem from a love of film noir. If you love Sin City or Nosferatu, that's a more likely explanation. You might even want to be Rudolf Valentino or Greta Garbo.

Red is a sign of vitality or aggression, whereas orange is meant to indicate hope. Blue can be a sign of conformity, and green is a sign of health. Brown can represent either materialism or nature, which is a little contradictory, but silver represents protection or purity.

Teal is trustworthiness, violet is spirituality, turquoise is healing, and peach is innocent love.

So, what are you thinking? Well, it may sound like absolute rubbish, as how many people even remember their dreams after a few days unless it happens regularly. In addition, trying to remember a dream accurately is always tricky, and color is very subjective. After all, what is the difference between green, turquoise and blue? When does turquoise stop being turquoise and start being another color?

If you are having a regular vivid dream, however, your mind may be trying to tell you something, although what is being told by these weasels no one really wants to know. Sleep and dreams are odd things, and trying to interpret them is often fruitless. Whether you are dreaming in color or in black and white, the important thing is to have a nice restful night.
